Firefox 4.0 is out! Find out how to reset the search bar in Firefox to function as a search box.

We love all the changes the competition between Internet Explorer, FireFox and Chrom has brought for the end user. Competition is good for the consumer! Unfortunately one of the most loved and increasingly standard features is not the default setting in Firefox 4.0. By that I mean the search functionality integrated into the address bar. If you like to have the address bar in Firefox set to function as a search box follow these simple steps:

  • Enter about:config into the address bar.
  • Locate keyword.url or search for it.
  • Double click on the line of “keyword.url”.
  • To display Google search results when text is entered in the address bar, replace the string in the box with the following: http://www.google.com/search?q=
  • Click OK when done.
